課程概述 |
本課程廣泛採用多媒體、原始資料及文學作品等媒材,介紹當代美國歷史與文化之相關主題、概念及事件,期學生覺知與理解20世紀的關鍵事件與文化現象如何型塑當代社會。 This course is designed to introduce topics, concepts and issues related to contemporary U.S. history and culture through a wide range of media, primary source material and literature in order to promote awareness and understanding of how important key events and cultural phenomena in the 20th century have shaped our world today.

中文課程大綱 |
學生藉由選讀原始資料、二手資料與官方檔案,以及觀賞大量多媒體素材,以了解20世紀主要歷史事件之影響,如第一次世界大戰與冷戰;以及大眾文化特色,如音樂、運動及電影等。本課程之目的在激發學生討論,並自力完成20世紀歷史文化發展特色之研究。期透過課堂討論、文本閱讀、大眾媒體視聽及PPT報告,加強學生對當代美國歷史文化的興趣及理解。

Through primary source material, excerpts from secondary sources, official documents, and a variety of other media students will realize the effects of key events, such as World War I and the Cold War, as well as popular cultural features such as music, sports and movies. The goal of this course is to foster discussion as well as to allow students to do their own research into key figures of the 20th century. Through class discussions, readings, mass media and their own PPT presentations it is hoped that students will have a greater appreciation for U.S. history and culture.

課程進度表 |
We will explore various events, people, and issues around the world which are connected to history and culture, important both globally and locally. Using videos and other internet resources, the course will cover a selection of themes connected with history and culture, from which students will be asked to reflect, discuss, and prepare short assignments. The purpose is to affirm the relevance of the study of history and culture to our present day life and our future.
Each week a different theme will be presented in class, with activities for class discussion and short written assignments. Students will also work in small groups to prepare and present topics related to historical or cultural events, people and places, and to offer questions for discussion.
